Join education curator Elizabeth Garrison, Salem artists Sonia Allen and Helen Nute Wiens, and the Willamette University Center for Ancient Studies and Archaeology coordinator April Miller as they guide parents and children through a variety of art-making and archaeological activities related to the exhibition “Breath of Heaven, Breath of Earth.”
Children will learn about cylinder seals, cuneiform, metal-working techniques, and a number of different archaeological practices and techniques.
A “Family Guide” booklet is available and explores the ancient objects in the exhibition that span 5500 years of art from the “cradle of civilization.” Visit the realms of gods and goddesses, humans and animals (both real and supernatural) created by Sumerians, Persians, Babylonians, and Hittites thousands of years ago. “Family Activity Day”, noon – 4:00 p.m. with free events and admission.
