RULES OF CHANCE: FORGING A CREATIVE PATH
sept 1-oct29
Rather than viewing chance as an element to be feared or controlled, the question this group exhibition poses is “Could it be viewed as a strength and an important/integral part of the creative process?” As this exhibit demonstrates, the answers are as varied and complex as the art on view which includes works by Kate Speckman, James Kirk, Bonnie Hull, James Southworth, Jennifer Gimzewski, Nancy Eng and Christian Rogers. For more info contact Catherine Alexander, SAA Galleries Director, at catherine@SalemArt.org. Tues-Fri 10 am-5 pm; Sat-Sun noon-5pm. Free. Bush Barn Art Center 600 Mission St, Salem (503) 581-2228

This is a rare opportunity to see quilts from the museum’s permanent collection along with period clothing whose leftover scraps and untattered fabrics could be reused to make stunning quilt patterns. “ FACE THE PUBLIC”
oct 2-nov3
For the eighth consecutive year the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery will feature this collaborative group show. During the month of October the selected nine Oregon artists will each paint for a day at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery to recreate Vincent Van Gogh “Bedroom at Arles”. The finished piece will be sold and the proceeds put into an Artists-in-Need-Fund which is available to any of our artists who may need a little help at some point in their career.  This has made a difference in the lives of these artists. Each artist will paint a section in their own style and with their own medium. In addition, the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery will feature a collaborative showing of paintings by each of the nine artists during the month of October. The goals of this show are to shed new light on a familiar piece of art, to build a collaboration between nine extremely talented artists and to have those artists “Face the Public”.
