Each weekend in June, communities around Oregon will host the Special Olympics Oregon Summer Regional Games. Over 1,800 athletes will compete in the 11 different competitions held around the state. In addition to the athletes, hundreds of coaches, volunteers, and family members will support them.
On June 18, a track meet will take place in Grants Pass. On the final weekend in June bocce and softball competitions will occur in Hillsboro with gymnastics in Beaverton on Sunday, June 26. Athletes will then advance to the Summer State Games in Newberg on July 16 and 17.
“Around the state, our athletes are training weekly with their coaches in preparation for their chance to compete at one of these upcoming Summer Regional Games and then continue to prepare for the Summer State Games in July. We encourage everyone to attend these Games to be a fan of achievement, of courage, and of inspiration,” says Margaret Hunt, Special Olympics Oregon CEO.
