Gamberetti’s Italian Restaurant has grown out of its old digs on Portland Road and has now joined Salem’s downtown at a location that will offer more seating, parking, and access to a larger audience.
Treva Gambs has moved her winning recipe for success to Pringle Plaza at the former Prudence Uncorked location. “The quick growth surprised me, but we are thrilled,” she says.
With almost twice the space, her popular catering options can move inside to the banquet rooms and now a full bar and lounge make a total dining package. “I think that this move is possible because we have built a reputation,” says Gambs. “So far the response has been great.”
Expect a homey feel from the new location. The space lends itself to a romantic feel, with lots of nooks and crannies and a fabulous view. “The potential is huge, the location is beautiful,” Gambs says.
“We have full banquet seating for 125 and a private room for rent for about 16-18 people; we were not able to have that before in our Portland Road location,” she says. The plan is to add additional seats and employees as well. Gamberetti’s employs about 15 people and plans to be up to 20 by December.
“I have been in Salem ever since my son was in kindergarten. I felt like Salem needed a local, casual dining place,” Gambs says.
The local ties are helping keep the menu fresh and the farmers’ markets busy.
“Every time I put money in a local farmer’s pocket, I am happy. I really believe in lining our neighbors’ pockets and keeping the revenue next door,” she says.
Although the atmosphere has gone upscale, the prices will remain reasonable and local ingredients are still a priority. Dishes under $10 offered include Milano chicken with garlic, pancetta, tomatoes and chili flakes tossed in olive oil, a mista verde salad with mixed greens, tomato, shaved carrots and Gorgonzola in sherry vinaigrette, and spaghetti and meatballs with marinara ($8.50). There is an ongoing $6.99 lunch special that will be a draw for downtowners.
Gambs says that she developed her own recipes and that each employee participates and helps to decide what should be on the menu. She’ll also offer gluten-free pasta. Requests are always welcome.
The restaurant joins at least four other Italian restaurants in the downtown area, as well as their new neighbor Marco Polo. Gambs says she’s not competing against high-end restaurants. “I want Lancaster customers who are eating at large chains to give our local restaurants a try,” she adds.
Gambs says that she’s elated, excited and a little overwhelmed, but she’s feeling the support of the community and her new neighbors.
