Light of Mine premieres in Portland

If you were losing your sight, what would you want to remember seeing?

Light of Mine, an independent film by Portland director Brett Eichenberger, answers this question from the perspective of a photographer losing his sight.

The story, according to producer Jill Remensnyder, was inspired by the thousands of jobs lost during the recession and is a race against time for the photographer.

Owen, played by Portland musician Ji Tanzer, decides to take one last trip to Yellowstone National Park after being diagnosed with a condition that will leave him blind.

“The story brings out the character. People can relate to this on so many levels,” she said. “When everything is at its worst, people can really endure.”

The crew, including another Portland musician, Rebecca Sanborn, who stars as Laura, and a small film crew, started in Portland and ended up in Yellowstone National Park. While they knew where they were going to film pivotal shots, they took an unusual open-ended approach.

Remensnyder said they would stop along the way when an interesting spot caught their eye.

The crew began filming in August 2010 and finished in mid-September.
