Reel Buzz: Get Him to The Greek, Killers, The A-Team

reelbuzz36

Hollywood’s got a little something for everyone opening in the next two weeks. A couple comedies, espionage, and a big action blockbuster. The biggest question is: can a UFC fighter step into the driver’s seat of Mr. T’s custom van? I pity da fool.

Get Him to the Greek

Once again, Russell Brand plays the only character he’ll ever be in my mind, Aldous Snow. You should remember Snow from “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” – if you don’t, stop reading this now, watch it and come back. I’ll wait … okay, he’s great, right? “Get Him to the Greek” is a spin-off movie featuring the air-humping Brit who chased Sarah Marshall. While Jonah Hill appears in both movies, he’s playing a new character in this one.

Killers

I can’t wait to see how Katherine Heigl will trash this movie a year from now. Ashton Kutcher co-stars as a covert spy and Heigl’s character’s new husband. Don’t get this confused with “Knight and Day,” the other movie with the same exact premise. One stars Tom Cruise and another blonde co-star, Cameron Diaz.

Marmaduke

A CGI-enhanced adaptation of the beloved comic strip, starring a massive

Great Dane who wreaks havoc wherever he goes. Wait a minute … Owen Wilson

voices Marmaduke? Owen Wilson of 2008′s “Marley and Me,” starring a dog who wreaks havoc wherever he goes? Hmmmm …

The A-Team

In Hollywood’s latest attempt to reboot a franchise, The A-Team is back. They’ve swapped the Vietnam War for the Iraq War, but the premise is the same. A group of elite veterans are looking to clear their names after being framed. Bradley Cooper plays pretty boy Faceman, UFC fighter Rampage plays Mr. T’s former role as B.A. Baracus and Liam Neeson fills the big shoes (and chomps the cigar) of the late George Peppard as Hannibal Smith. The trailer makes the CGI of this movie look quite ridiculous, but it might prove worthy of an audience.

The Karate Kid

Oh, look, another attempt to reboot a franchise on the same weekend. There’s even some Hollywood-style nepotism in this one. Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith, who also produces this one, stars as the karate kid himself. The premise plays out almost exactly as the original. A single mother moves to China (instead of Los Angeles) with her son. The son meets up with a wise Asian guy (Jackie Chan), who gets his car washed for free. Wax on, wax off.
