There aren’t any big summer blockbusters in the upcoming weeks, but comedy is taking the forefront as Steve Carell and Will Ferrell both have flicks coming out. And of course, “Step Up 3D” will be the cherry on top of the comedy cake.

Dinner for Schmucks
You know how every big promotion requires you to bring the dorkiest person you know to dinner with the sole purpose of making fun of them? No? Well, that’s what this movie is about. Tim Wagner, played by Paul Rudd, is heading up the corporate ladder, but first he’s got to take his newfound dork friend Barry (Steve Carell) to a dinner (for schmucks) with his associates. Carell is channeling half of his “40 Year Old Virgin” character and half of Brick Tamland of “Anchorman” fame.
Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore
Dogs and cats have always been foes, but in this flick, it’s taken to another level with high-tech gadgets and jetpacks. The film focuses on a rogue cat who is deadset on world conquest, which puts the war between cats and dogs on hold. This is more of a spin-off than sequel as the majority of the characters from the 2001 flick “Cats & Dogs” are missing from it. On a positive note, Mr. Tinkles, who was the villain in the first film and voiced by Sean Hayes, will be making an appearance.
Get Low
A 1930s Tennessee hermit (Robert Duvall) decides to hold himself a funeral party before he dies so that he’s able to attend. Duvall’s character is a local legend, often shooting his gun at people. He enlists the help of a funeral director (Bill Murray) and his assistant (Lucas Black) to host the party. Naturally, look for Bill Murray making snarky comments.

Charlie St. Cloud
What’s with the dead-people-coming-back-to-life-for-only-one-person trend in Hollywood? In this movie Zac Efron is in a car accident with his younger brother, who ends up dying. Rather than mourning in a healthy manner and moving on with his life, Efron can still see his brother and plays a ghostly game of catch with him every night. When a hot girl gets in the middle of Efron’s ghostly encounters, he’s got to choose whether to move on or stay in the cemetery.
The Other Guys
Marky Mark and Will Ferrell star as the titular other guys, Terry Hoitz and Allen Gamble. Hoitz and Gamble are the lame, boring cops in the department that is led by rockstar detectives played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. Ferrell is playing Will Ferrell as always, but from an action comedy this one looks a lot better than what he’s been putting out lately.
Step Up 3D
Late last year, after James Cameron started buying planets with his “Avatar” money, I woke from a lusty dream wherein a bunch of people sporadically broke out in dance. But instead of the 2D nonsense, it was in 3D. Those break dancing moves were coming RIGHT AT MY FACE. Now months later, I will relive that dream and so can you.
